HOUSTON, Texas – Eldon CLAPHAM, 79, of Houston, Texas, formerly of 
Cedar Bluffs, died Monday, March 25 at his home. Clapham was born 
Sept. 11, 1922 to Charles and Rose (Kolbe) Clapham on a farm in 
Saunders County. He grew up near Cedar Bluffs. Services were held 
March 30 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial was at Memorial 
Cemetery in Fremont. 

MILLARD – Merlynn D. LORENZ, 76, of Millard, died Monday, April 8 in Omaha. 
Lorenz is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bertha Lorenz; brother, Les 
Lorenz; sister, Lorraine Narm and granddaughter, Kelly Asher. Services April 11 
at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary in Papillion with interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery 
in Omaha. 

WAHOO – Alexis Grace CROCKETT, 7 weeks, died Friday, April 5 at the 
St. Elizabeth Regional Health Care Center in Lincoln. Alexis and her twin 
brother, Grant, were born Feb. 13 to Greg and Ann Crockett in Lincoln. 
Private funeral services were held Monday, April 8. Burial was at Sunrise

ITHACA – Elsie Katherine Marie GUSTAFSON, 97, of Ithaca, died Friday, 
April 5 at the Saunders County Hospital in Wahoo. Born Dec. 25, 1904 to 
Chris and Rosie (Prinz) Jurgensen in Yutan. On Oct. 24, 1924 she was 
married to Roy Gustafson in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Services were held 
April 9 at the United Methodist Church in Ithaca. Burial was at Indian

WAHOO – Martha (Woita) PFINGSTON, 81, of Wahoo, formerly of Fremont, 
died April 8. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday,

WAHOO – Ermin M. Hajek, 78, of Wahoo, died April 12. Born Oct. 20, 1923 
to John L. and Frances (Hobza) Hajek in Linwood. Mass of Christian Burial 
April 15 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial was at Sacred Heart 
Cemetery at Cedar Hill in rural Morse Bluff with military honors by American 
Legion Post 82 and VFW Post 4502, both of Wahoo. Svoboda Funeral Home

Helen HINRICHS 
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Helen C. Hinrichs, 91, of Roseville, Minn. died Mar 12 
at the Presbyterian Home in Roseville, Minn. Born Dec. 24, 1910 to Louis 
and Elizabeth Lapcheska in Ohiowa. She was married to Dr. Edward J. Hinrichs, 
who practiced medicine in Wahoo. A memorial service will be held on April 19 
at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo with a graveside service in Bruning

WAHOO – Emily Kaspar, 82, of Wahoo died Saturday, April 13. Born Sept. 11, 1919 
to Ludvik and Anna (Wondra) Krivanek in Abie. On Mar 26, 1940 married Max Kaspar 
in Omaha. Services were held April 17 at First Presbyterian Church. Burial was at

NORWALK, Iowa – Mary Lowery, 55, of Norwalk, Iowa died April 2. 
Born in Sleepy Eye, Minn. and graduated from Archbishop Bergan

Bertha NICHELSON
WAHOO – Bertha Marie Nichelson, 89, of Wahoo died April 11 at 
a Lincoln Hospital. Born June 6, 1912 to John G. and Christina (Yost) 
Hamburger in Harvard. On Sept. 8, 1930 she was married to Herbert 
Nichelson in Harvard. Services were held April 15 at First Congregational 
Church in Wahoo. Burial was at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo. Pruss-Nabity

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. – Ret. Staff Sergeant James Ray Patterson, 42, of 
Douglasville, Ga. died Tuesday, April 9 in Douglasville, Ga. Services were 
held April 16 at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Burial was at Indian Mound 
Cemetery in Ithaca. An honor guard from Fort Riley, Kan. presented

accident near Nebraska City. Born April 5, 1948 to Harry and Rose

PRAGUE – William J. "Bill" Sedlacek, 87, of Prague, died April 22
in Fremont. Born April 12, 1915 to Ignac and Mary (Belik) Sedlacek 
in Raymond. On Nov. 28, 1944 he was married to Mayme Havelka 
at Plasi. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, 
Irene and Milton Dokulil, Frances and Myron Krondak and Helen and

ALGONA, Iowa – Henrietta Ana Tripp, 76, of Algona, Iowa, died April 16
in Bancroft, Iowa. Born April 19, 1925 to Ladislav and Marie (Musil) Cihal 
in Touhy. On Aug. 4, 1952 married to Everett Tripp in Woodbine, Iowa.

WESTON – Agnes "Agie" Pallas, 90, of Weston, died April 25 in Lincoln. 
Born Jan. 21, 1912 to Joseph and Frances (Dolezal) Pallas in rural Weston. 
Following unsuccessful marriages to Ole Mays and Jim Burns, Pallas married 
Andy Borreson who died in the 1950s. Preceded in death by her parents; a 
sister, Blanche Petrzilka; brothers, Jim Pallas and Ed Pallas; and several 
siblings that died as infants. Services were held April 27 at Svoboda 
Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial was at the Czech Presbyterian Cemetery

Reuben POKORNY
WAHOO – Reuben J. Pokorny, 78, of Wahoo, died April 23 at his home. 
Born Mar 27, 1924 to Henry Sr. and Louis (Dostal) Pokorny in Saunders 
County. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; 
brothers, Henry Pokorny Jr., Edward Pokorny and Emil Pokorny; sisters, 
Louise Navorkal and Jarmila Schlotman. Services were held April 26 at 
the Czech Presbyterian Church. Burial was at the Czech Presbyterian

FREMONT – Irene H. Hein, 97, of Fremont, died May 1. Born Mar 1, 1905 
to George and Gesine (Wessel) Suhr in Scribner. On Dec. 6, 1928 married 
Charlie O. Hein at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Hooper. Preceded in death 
by her parents; her husband; two infant children; two brothers, Oswald and 
Richard Suhr; a sister, Johanna Suhr and two sisters-in-law. Services were 
held May 4 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial was at Memorial

Erma JORGENSEN
MERCED, Calif. – Erma V. (Caha) Jorgensen, 87, of Merced, Calif. died April 25, 2002. 
Born Aug. 25, 1914 in Thurston. She was married to Gerald R. Jorgensen in Weeping 
Water. She was a military wife and traveled around the world for 30 years. 
A family memorial service was held May 25 in Wahoo. Buried next to her husband 
on May 28 at Arlington National Cemetery. Stratford Evans Funeral Chapel of

Celestine REZAC
BRAINARD – Celestine J. "C. J." Rezac, 82, of Brainard, died May 1 in David City. 
Born Mar 16, 1920 to Joseph and Sophia (Maly) Rezac in rural Butler County near 
Brainard. On Oct. 17, 1953 he was united in marriage to Martha Kremlacek at 
Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church at Plasi. He was a farmer and lifelong 
resident of Butler County. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, 
Earl Rezac; one sister and six brothers. Mass of Christian Burial was held May 4 
at Holy Trinity Catholic church in Brainard. Burial was at the new Holy Trinity

WAHOO – LeVern J. "Vern" Vybiral, 76, of Wahoo, died May 4 in Lincoln. 
Born June 9, 1925 to John and Mildred (Croshaw) Vybiral in rural Wahoo.
On Aug. 30, 1948  married to Pauline C. Dehning at St. Wenceslaus Catholic 
Church in Wahoo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth 
G. Vybiral and a brother-in-law, Roger Smith. Mass of Christian Burial was held 
May 7 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Burial was at St. Francis

YUTAN – Corean Olive Widman, 80, of Yutan died May 3 in Fremont. Born July 4, 1921 
to William and Evelyn (Baker) Willson in Wayne, Mich. On May 4, 1946 married to Wayne 
Widman in Wayne, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Ira 
Willson; and a son, Larry Widman. Services were held May 5 at St. John’s Evangelical

Helen Kaplan at Morse Bluff. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives;

Marysville, Kan. Preceded in death by her mother; her husband; a son,

by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Ted Coufal; two sisters, Ella Ptacek

death by her husbands; a son, Ted Travers and a granddaughter, Valery Travers.

WAHOO – Thomas Carl Marino Sickler, 61, of Kearney, died June 10. 
Born Oct. 20, 1940 to Carl and Beulah (Sickler) Marino in Omaha. After his 
mother passed away in 1949 he was adopted by his maternal grandmother, 
Gladys (Prescott) Sickler. Married to Jeanette Peterson in 1959. He was then 
married to Beverly Heib in 1978. Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents

July 3 at 10 a.m. at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Interment at St. Wenceslaus 
Cemetery with military rites. Svoboda Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge 
of the arrangements. 

Ernest SCHOLZ
LINCOLN – Ernest E. Scholz, 72, of Lincoln, died Saturday, June 29 in David City. 
Scholz was born Jan. 22, 1930 to John and Anna (Benes) Scholz in Brainard. 
Services were held July 3 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Burial was at Lincoln 
Memorial Park Cemetery. Lincoln Memorial Park Funeral Home of Lincoln was in 
charge of the arrangements. 

Edward STOUPA
FREMONT – Edward J. Stoupa, 78, of Fremont, died Friday, June 23, 2002. 
Born Oct. 16, 1923 to John and Mary (Andrle) Stoupa in Valparaiso. On 
April 16, 1978 he was married to Vivian "Vi" Hocevar in Omaha. Preceded in 
death by his parents, one son, Kevin Stoupa, and one daughter, Karen. 
Services were held July 3 at the Fremont Alliance Church. He donated his 
body to the State Anatomical Board. Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont 
was in charge of the arrangements. 

Edvin VOMACKA
DAVEY – Edvin J. Vomacka, 78, of Davey, died June 15 in Lincoln. 
Born Nov. 19, 1923 to Frank and Anna Vomacka in Lynch. Preceded in 
death by his parents; two brothers, and three sisters. Services were held 
at Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel on June 19. Burial was at Tothill Cemetery.
Metcalf Funeral Home of Lincoln was in charge of the arrangements.

OMAHA – Eloise Claire Kammerer, 81, of Leshara, died July 5, 2002 in Omaha. 
Born Dec. 14, 1920 to Anson and Corra (Nelson) Thomas in St. Edward. 
On June 22, 1948 she was married to George Stanley Kammerer in Marysville, KS. 
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Services were held July 9 at 
Pohocco Lutheran Church in rural Fremont. Burial was at Pohocco Cemetery in 
rural Fremont. Reichmuth Funeral Home of Elkhorn was in charge of the arrangements.

WAHOO – Roy R. Schmidt, 84, of Wahoo, died July 1, 2002 in Wahoo. 
Born Nov. 21, 1917 to John D. and Blanche B. (Jansa) Schmidt in Ithaca. 
On Nov. 24, 1938 married Christine R. Brabec in Wahoo. He is preceded in 
death by a son, Richard R. Schmidt; a sister-in-law, Dorie Schmidt; and a 
brother-in-law, Harry Thompsett. Services were held July 3 at Svoboda 
Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Wahoo 
with military rites and flag presentation by the American Legion Post 82 
and VFW Post 4502, both of Wahoo. 

Esther SHERMAN 
ITHACA – Esther Sherman, 88, of rural Ithaca, died July 7 in Lincoln. 
Born Oct. 21, 1913 to Gustav and Olga Amelia Lood Anderson Fredrickson 
in rural Mead. On Feb. 20, 1938 married Merle Sherman in Lincoln. Preceded 
in death by her parents; one brother, Warner Fredrickson; three sisters, Violet 
Hageman, Anne Fredrickson and Dorothy Anderson; an infant son, Russell Sherman. 
Services were held July 10 at United Methodist Church in Ashland. Burial was at 
Cedar Hill Cemetery in rural Greenwood. 

Robert WERNSMAN 
OMAHA - Robert Edward Wernsman Sr., 78, formerly of Prague and 
Bella Vista, Ark. died June 27, in Omaha. He was preceded in death by 
his wife, Lola Wilcox Wernsman; his parents, Jake and Margaret Wernsman; 
brother, Lawrence Wernsman; sisters, Loretta Wernsman, and Bernice Meyer. 
Services were held July 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Omaha.

George HAESSLER
WAHOO – George W. Haessler, 79, of Lincoln, formerly of Wahoo, died 
July 15, 2002 in Lincoln. Haessler was born Nov. 2, 1922 to Hugo Paul 
and Florence (Dunnigan) Haessler in Leshara. He married Marjorie Daily. 
He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services July 18 at 
Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Burial at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo. 
Flag presentation and military rites will be conducted by the American 
Legion Post 82 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502, both of Wahoo. 

Lorene ROUMPH
FREMONT – Lorene Roumph, 78, of Fremont, died July 14 in Fremont. 
Born June 2, 1924 to Michael and Antonia (Malika) Zrust in Clarkson. 
On Oct. 3, 1946 married to Keith L. Roumph Sr. at St. Patrick’s Catholic 
Church in Fremont. They made their home in Fremont. She was preceded 
in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Leonard, Lumir and 
Michael Zrust. Services July 18 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Fremont. 
Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont 
is in charge of the arrangements.
