Wahoo News Mar 2006 BRAINARD - Dorothy M. Piitz, 80, of Brainard, died March 12 in David City. Piitz was born May 20, 1925 to George and Katherine (Maul) Hergenrader in Cozad. She married Albert Sellers on May 25, 1947 in Lincoln. He died in 1982. On July 25, 1986 she married Leo Piitz at St. Teresa Church in Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; a brother, Stanley Hergenrader. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in rural David City. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln. WAHOO - Harold L. Miller, 74, of Wahoo, died March 8, 2006. Miller was born July 24, 1931 to Lloyd and Marie (Thoms) Miller on a farm near Ithaca. He married Marjorie Rood on Nov. 25, 1951 in Wahoo. His wife, his parents, and brothers, Robert and Ken, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held March 13 at the First United Methodist Church. Interment was at Sunrise Cemetery with Military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Post 82 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502. CEDAR BLUFFS - Anita D. Ranslem, 98, of Cedar Bluffs died March 7 in Fremont. Born Sept. 4, 1907 to George and Ella (Anthony) Jones on the family farm west of Cedar Bluffs where she grew up. On March 23, 1932 married Earl L. Ranslem at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Hooper. Her parents; her husband; a sister, Lilly Brown and a brother, Harry Jones, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held March 10 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery at Cedar Bluffs. CEDAR BLUFFS - Ilva M. Hartford, 87, of Cedar Bluffs, died March 8 in Fremont. Born May 9, 1918 to John F. "Bill" and Anna (Hensen) Sukstorf in Cedar Bluffs. On Dec. 8, 1940 she married Allard W. Hartford at Cedar Bluffs. Her parents; her husband; a brother, Arnold Sukstorf; and an infant sister, Helen, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 13 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. Burial will be at Fleming Cemetery near Cedar Bluffs. FREMONT - Burton "Nick" Johnson, 71, died March 6 at his home. Johnson was born Sept. 18, 1934 in Wahoo. On Aug. 19, 1956 he married Jane Langenberg at Walthill. He is survived by his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Meg Johnson and Ron Svehla of Lincoln; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric W. and Deborah John-son of Fremont and Christopher and Catherine Johnson of Omaha; a sister, Barbara Davis of Chesterfield, Mo.; a brother, Dr. Gordon Johnson of Omaha; and six grandchildren. Services were held March 10 at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. A private family burial was at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo. MEAD - Elva E. Mapes, age 69, of Mead, died March 18 in Wahoo. Born Oct. 19, 1936 in Purdum to Henry and Lucille (Featherson) Parks. On May 22, 1976, she married Dale Mapes in Ainsworth. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Emma Paulson and Geraldine Parks; and brothers, Evert and Daniel Parks. Survived by her husband; daughter, Debra Smith of Mead; stepchildren and spouses, Dale Jr. and Dorothy Mapes of Long Pine, Frank and Terrie Mapes of Pennsylvania, Sharleen and Kenny Robinson of Mead, Rhonda and Kevin Swick of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and sister- and brother-in-law, Marie and Arnie Robinson, Long Pine. Memorial service was held March 22 at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Ainsworth Cemetery in Ainsworth. LINCOLN - Robert D. Palmer, 73, of Nemaha, died March 10 in Lincoln. Born Jan. 31, 1933 to Glen and Susan (Adams) Palmer in Peru. He served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. On Aug. 18, 1956 he married Glenda Byrom in Falls City. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Glen, Daniel, Boyd, Keith and Pat Palmer, a sister, Lorraine Gilliland; and infant brother and sister; and a sister-in-law, Alice Gerber. Funeral services were held March 14 at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha. Flag presentation was conducted by the Peru VFW Post 7299. Inurnment will take place at a later date. GENOA - Goldie Brooks, 95, of Genoa died March 17, 2006. Born July 10, 1910 to Hans and Ella (Johnson) Erickson in Malmo. She moved to San Diego, Calif. in the 1940s. In 1950, she married Martin Brooks. She worked in elementary education. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Harvey Hilyard and Arthur Erickson; and sisters, Amy Houfek and Esther Erickson. Survived by a stepdaughter, Eleanor Brooks of LaMesa, Calif.; nephews, Raymond Erickson of Florence, Oregon and William and Marjorie Houfek of Genoa; and nieces, Helen and Mel Brown of Florence, Oregon and Marylin Meyer of Colorado Springs, Colo. Funeral services were held March 22 at the First Congregational Church in Genoa. Burial was at Edensberg Lutheran Cemetery in Malmo. WAHOO - Alfred F. Basel, age 92, of Wahoo, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006. Born November 13, 1913 at Ceresco to Frank and Augusta (Wendt) Basel. He grew up on a farm near Ceresco and attended District 52 Grade School. Preceded in death by his brothers Gus, Otto, Herb and Frank, and sisters Elsie and Marie. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Orville "Doc" and Jean Basel of Lincoln; sister-in-law Tillie Basel of Bullhead City, Ariz; many nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephew.
