Ashland Gazette Oct 2006 ASHLAND - Don E. ALLEN, 72, of rural Ashland, died at his home Oct. 9, 2006. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Greenwood Christian Church in Greenwood. Arrangements by Marcy Mortuary, Ashland. ASHLAND - Bob James SIMPSON, 74, of Ashland, died at his home on Oct. 8, 2006, after a strong fight with pancreatic cancer the past three years. Born near Shubert in rural Richardson Co. on Jan. 14, 1932, to Elmer and Velma (Rowell) Simpson. Married Shirley Gess of rural Talmage in May of 1954. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Simpson. Funeral services were Oct. 11, at the Ashland American Lutheran Church. Burial followed at the Ashland Cemetery. GREENWOOD - Daniel H. "Danny" FLANAGAN, 92, of Greenwood, died Oct. 5, 2006 in Waverly. Born in Fairfax, Mo. to Otis and Ruth (Stover) Flanagan. Served in the Seabees with the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor during World War II. Married Myrtle Vollertsen in Sidney, Iowa on Sept. 20, 1937. Preceded in death by his infant son Robert, parents, brothers Donald and Edward and sister Mary DeLatte. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Oct. 14, at Greenwood Christian Church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Greenwood with military honors by American Legion Post 129 of Ashland SHENANDOAH, Iowa - Mabel Mae BROWNING, 88, passed away Oct. 3, 2006 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Mabel Mae Browning, one of nine children born to Christian F. and Bertha (Mumm) Kolb was born May 4, 1918, near Memphis. As a young person she moved to Oakland, Calif., where she was married Norman Selby. In 1959, she married Ray Browning. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray Browning in 1980; sisters Caroline Kolb, Clara Kolb and Frances Timm; brothers, Oren Kolb, Edgar Kolb, Elmer Kolb; daughter-in-law Sandra Selby.
