LINCOLN - Josephine COUFAL, 94, of Lincoln, formerly of the Bruno area, died 
July 31, 2007. Born Jan. 3, 1913, to Joseph and Theresa (Rerucha) Fencl on 
the farm near Bruno. Married Leonard E. Coufal. Preceded in death by her 
parents, her husband in 2002; four brothers, Adolph, John, Ed and Anton Fencl 
and two sisters, Tillie Simanek and Gustie Svoboda. Funeral services , Aug. 4 
at Chermok Funeral Chapel in David City. Burial will be at a later date. 

OMAHA - Donald M. HENGEN, 83, of Omaha, died Aug. 3, 2007. 
Born Feb. 1, 1924 to Ted and Helen Hengen at home near Wahoo. 
Served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Married Milrae (Mitzie) Ericson. 
Preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy (Hengen) Larsen, nephews, 
Ron and Tim Larsen. Memorial service , Aug. 6 at Roeder Mortuary in Omaha. 
Graveside service , Aug. 8, 2007 at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo. 
 
ASHLAND - S. Blanche IVES, 94, of Ashland, died July 18, 2007. 
Born at South Bend on Sept. 2, 1912 to William A. and Etta (Miller) Jones. 
Preceded in death by husband Howard Ives; sisters Mary Thomas, Mildred 
Mumm and Pearl Morris; brothers Lloyd, Lester, Clinton and John Jones. 
Memorial service, July 24 at Marcy Chapel in Ashland. There will be a 
private inurnment at Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha. 
 
CERESCO - Clayton E. KOCK, 77, of Ceresco, formerly of Fremont, died 
July 30, 2007 in Lincoln. Born Feb. 17, 1930 to Fred and Lena (Peterson) Kock 
in Coleridge. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Married Marilyn 
Sherwood in 1955 in Randolph. The couple later divorced. Preceded in death by 
his parents; a sister, Juanita Rhoten; brothers-in-law, Lee Raynie and Dwayne 
Miller and special friend, Marilyn Haines. Memorial service, Aug. 17, 2007 at Moser 
Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard. 
Burial will be in the Coleridge Cemetery in Coleridge. 
 
AURORA, Colo. - Mary Ann LEWIS, 63, of Aurora, Colo., died July 31, 2007. 
Mary Ann was born on Sept. 3, 1943, to Thomas and Alice Vrana in Valparaiso. 
Married William Lewis of Salina, Kan., on Aug.7, 1965, in Prague. Her parents 
preceded her in death. Memorial services, Aug. 14 at the Prague 
Presbyterian Church and Cemetery. 
 
CEDAR BLUFFS - John J. "Hunza" MALY, 55, of Cedar Bluffs, died 
Aug. 2, 2007 in Fremont. Born Jan. 5, 1952 to John J. and Wilma Maly in Wahoo. 
Preceded in death by his father. Funeral services on Aug. 4, 2007 at St. Mary's 
Catholic Church in Cedar Bluffs. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery 
at Cedar Bluffs. Moser Memorial Chapel of Cedar Bluffs is in charge of 
the arrangements.  

MEAD - Eletha BEAM, 92, of Mead, died Aug. 4, 2007 in Valley, NE. 
Born Aug. 28, 1914, to Ordray and Julia (Otto) Scoles at Battle Creek, Iowa. 
Married Raymond Beam on Oct. 11, 1934 at Auburn. Her husband preceded 
her in death. Funeral services, Aug. 8, at the Mead Evangelical Covenant 
Church. Interment will be at Alma Lutheran Cemetery in Mead. 

WAHOO - Jack L. PEETZ, 52, of Wahoo, died Aug. 2, 2007 at his home. 
Born on Aug. 13, 1954, to Glenn and Barbara (Martindale) Peetz in Wahoo. 
His mother preceded him in death. Funeral service was held Aug. 6, 2007 at 
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo. Interment was at Sunrise North 
Cemetery in Wahoo. 

ASHLAND - Tekla Cecelia Lukowski DELESKI, 93, of Ashland, died 
Aug. 12, 2007. Born on Oct. 14, 1913, in the rural Gretna area to 
Thomas and Theodora (Tomzyckowski) Lukowski. On Nov. 3, 1932 
married Louis "Louie" M. Deleski at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Gretna. 
Preceded in death by her husband, who died in Aug 1998; grandsons Tom 
Pallas and John Graser Jr. and sister Victoria Neal. Mass of Christian Burial
held , Aug. 16 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ashland. Burial at Holy 
Sepulchre Cemetery in Gretna. Arrangements by Marcy Mortuary, Ashland.  
 
CEDAR BLUFFS - Willette M. ECKERT, 89, of Cedar Bluffs, died Aug. 10, 2007 
at her home in Cedar Bluffs. Born Dec. 13, 1917 to William and Mary (Ballard) 
Pageler in Cedar Bluffs. On Aug. 24, 1936 married Herman Eckert in Cedar Bluffs. 
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, William Eckert; a brother, 
William Pagelar; two sisters, Loretta TePoel and Kathryn Wilcox; and a 
grandson, William Eckert. Funeral service was held Aug. 14 at St. Mary's 
Catholic Church in Cedar Bluffs. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery near Cedar Bluffs. 
Moser Memorial Chapel of Cedar Bluffs was in charge of the arrangements.  
 
WAHOO - Mildred KREMLACEK, 76, of Wahoo, died Aug. 11, 2007 in David City, NE. 
Born on Mar 11, 1931, to Joseph and Anna (Mlynarik) Kremlacek in rural Weston. 
Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joseph and Roland Kremlacek, and 
sister, Anna Styskal. Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 14 at St. Wenceslaus 
Catholic in Wahoo. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Wahoo. 

LEAWOOD, Kan. - Janice J. TANNER died Aug. 10, 2007. Born in Memphis on 
July 11, 1917. Her husband, Paul A. Tanner, preceded her in death. A Memorial 
and Celebration of her life was held, Oct. 11 at Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, Kan. 
 
WAHOO - Mildred M. VLASAK, 83, of Wahoo, died Aug. 11, 2007. 
Born on Feb. 17, 1924 to Frank and Agnes (Ficenec) Havelka in Prague.
On Oct. 16, 1948, she married Albert R. Vlasak in Wahoo. Preceded in 
death by her husband, brothers, George and Frank Havelka, sisters, 
Bernice Hageman, Lois Scott, Ethel Hanis and Annetta Daharsh. 
Mass of Christian Burial held Aug. 15, 2007 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic 
Church in Wahoo. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Prague. 
 
PORTLAND, Ore. – Wayne R. "Hodg" HODGIN, 84, of Portland, Ore., died 
on July 29, 2007, of causes related to cancer. Born in Ashland, the son 
of Vearl and Eloise (Quick) Hodgin. He joined the U. S. Army during WWII. 
Graveside services were held at Willamette National Cemetery with military 
honors on Aug. 6, 2007. Alternative Burial and Cremation of Oregon are 
in charge of arrangements. 

WAVERLY - Funeral services for Helen I. JOHNSON of Waverly held 
Aug. 25, 2007 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln. Helen, 86, passed 
away Aug. 22, 2007 in Lincoln. Born to Otto and Anna (Drucker) Hans on 
Oct. 15, 1920 in Goehner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; 
parents; brothers Herbert, Chester, Harold, and Arnold Hans and sister, Ruth Hans. 
Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park. 

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Ruth E. PARNELL, 91, of Bakersfield, Calif. died 
Aug. 16, 2007. Born Jan. 30, 1916 to Alvin and Lillie (Pearson) Gibson on 
a farm near Mead. Graduated from Clarkson School of Nursing in Omaha 
with a RN degree in 1937. Married Lawrence Parnell on June 11, 1939 at 
the United Methodist Church in Wahoo. Her husband preceded her in death. 
A graveside service was held Aug. 20 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA.
 
WAVERLY - Funeral services for Harold (Shorty) PILFOLD will be held 
Aug. 27, 2007 at Roper and Sons Chapel in Waverly. Formerly of Waverly, he 
died Aug. 22 at the age of 89 in Crete. Born in Ashland July 5, 1918 to Charles G. 
and Lessie (Wallen) Pilfold. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Preceded in 
death by wife, Marie; parents, five sisters, and five brothers. Service with burial 
at Rose Hill Cemetery. 
 
BRUNO - Roman SMAUS, 94, of Bruno, died Aug. 20, 2007 in David City, NE. 
Born on Sept. 25, 1912, to Joseph and Emma (Cernohlavek) Smaus. His parents, a 
son, Roman Ray Smaus, a brother, Joe Smaus and a sister, Mollye Patton, preceded 
him in death. Mass of Christian Burial held Aug. 24, 2007 at St. Anthony's Catholic 
Church in Bruno. Knott Funeral Home of David City is in charge of the arrangements.  

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Larry W. ALLEY, 68, of Apache Junction, Ariz., formerly 
of Ashland, died Aug. 24, 2007. Born Aug. 25, 1938 in Omaha. Preceded in death 
by his parents, Harold and Ruth Alley and stepfather Fred Reno. Services held 
Aug. 30 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa, Ariz.  

WAHOO - Dolores B. LARSON, 76, of Wahoo, died Aug. 28, 2007 in Lincoln. 
Born on Aug. 27, 1931, to Enola and Everett Larson in Yutan. Preceded in 
death by her parents. Survived by many cousins. Graveside services held 
Sept. 5, 2007 at Sunrise North Cemetery in Wahoo. Svoboda Funeral 
Home is in charge of arrangements.  
 
WAHOO - Opal Lee LUNDHOLM, 84, of Wahoo, died Aug. 21, 2007. 
Born July 25, 1923 to James and Cynthia (Bailey) Davis at Atchison, Kan. 
Married Joseph LaVern Lundholm in Omaha on Nov. 5, 1980. Preceded in 
death by sisters, Alice Meers, Martha Breazile, Fern Weeks and an infant brother. 
Family gathered for a private memorial. Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home of Wahoo was 
in charge of the arrangements.  
 
OMAHA - Janis K. McFEE, 66, of Omaha, died Aug. 24 at Omaha. 
Preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Myrtle Colling. 
Services Aug. 28, 2007 at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler 
West Center Chapel, in Omaha. Interment is at Forest Lawn Memorial 
Park Cemetery. 
 
WAHOO - Agnes C. PALENSKY, 85, of Wahoo, died Aug. 28, 2007. 
Born Oct. 12, 1921, to Vaclav and Agnes (Odvody) Koranda at Prague. 
On Aug. 16, 1939, she was united in marriage to Cyril Palensky at Prague. 
Preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Vaclav 
Koranda, Jr. and sister, Marie Sloup. Mass of Christian Burial was held 
Aug. 31 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. 
 
ASHLAND - Marie (Havlet) SHANDERA, 70, died at her rural Ashland home 
on Aug. 28, 2007. Marie (Havlet) Shandera was born on July 7, 1937 in 
Pleasant Dale to Thomas and Libby (Valprousky) Havlet. On July 7, 1956 
married Donald Shandera in Lincoln. Preceded in death by her brothers 
Thomas, Albert and Louis Havlet. Funeral services held Sept. 1, 2007 
at the American Lutheran Church in Ashland. Burial at the Ashland 
Cemetery in Ashland. 
 
NORTH BEND - Edward F. SLOUP, 87 of North Bend, died Aug. 27, 2007.
Born on July 20, 1920 to Edwards and Anna (Vidlak) Sloup in Prague. 
Enlisted in the U. S. Army and served during WWII in Normandy and 
Northern France. Marriage to Dorothy M. Kucera on June 27, 1946 at 
Saint John's Catholic Church in Prague. Preceded in death by his parents; 
his wife; brothers, Emil and Victor Sloup; and sister, Marie Hruska.
Funeral will be held Sept. 4 at Saint Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. 
Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the members of VFW Post 
8223, AmVets Post 20 of North Bend and American Legion Post 340 of Morse 
Bluff. Burial will be a National Cemetery in Prague.
