Arney, a sister, Laurie Jensen, and a nephew, Randy Abbott. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Burial is at Sunrise North Cemetery. Svoboda Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements. MEAD - James LANGEMEIER, 61 of rural Mead, died Jan. 4 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Born March 23, 1945, to Arnold and Leona (Beck) Langemeier in Hooper. Married Deanne Carlson on Aug. 25, 1963. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother. "Al" BARTEK, 83, of Wahoo, died Jan. 5 at his home in Wahoo. Born on Feb. 18, 1923 to Joseph and Blanche (Kavan) Bartek at Loma. Served in the U. S. Army in World War II. Married Erma Shonka on July 23, 1946 at Presentation Catholic Church in Bellwood. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Celestine Bartek and Rita Reinwald, brother, Joseph, and infant daughter, Renee. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 308. WAHOO - Medford O. BARRY, 83, of Wahoo, died Jan. 5, 2007. Born Dec. 29, 1923, to Luella (Jurgens) and Oscar E. Barry on the family farm outside Malmo. He was a World War II veteran,drafted into the U. S. Marine Corps. On Sept. 28, 1947 he married Dorothy Norma Holtorf in Malmo. Dorothy died Nov.30, 1958. On March 19, 1960 he married Elsie Marie Gosch. His parents, his first wife, and his brother, Ivan Barry, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at First Presbyterian Church. Wahoo Lodge 59 A.F. and A.M. conducted a Masonic funeral service. Interment was at Sunrise Cemetery with military honors conducted by Malmo American Legion Post 232. NORTH BEND - Edith FREEMAN, 89, of North Bend, formerly of Morse Bluff, died Dec. 29, 2006 in Fremont. Born July 31, 1917 to John and Ruby (Kimble) Lohman in Cedar Bluffs. Married Paul M. Freeman on Oct. 21, 1939 in Omaha. Her parents, her husband, a grandson, Thomas Freeman and a brother, Lavonne "Bud" Lohman, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Jan. 3, 2007 at the United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery at Cedar Bluffs. FREMONT - Bessie J. TURNER, 76, of Fremont, died Jan. 2, 2007. Born on Sept. 7, 1930 to Lumir Prochaska and Henriette Houska in Purple Cane Township. Married Carl Richard Strong, May 26, 1950 in Raton, N. M. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1976 in the Pathfinder Hotel explosion. She married Doug Turner on Nov. 14, 1987 in Fremont. Her parents and a grandson, Trent, precede her in death. Born Mar. 6, 1910 to James and Lena (Parli) Holsclaw in Otis, Colo. Preceded in death by husbands, Jack Morgan and Gifford Anderson, and daughter, Sondre Jetton. Funeral services were held Jan. 5, 2007 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment was at Sunrise Cemetery. WAHOO - Mildred A. BRABEC, 86, of Wahoo, formerly of Malmo, died Jan. 16, 2007. Born April 21, 1920 to John and Emma (Nemec) Kavan in rural Morse Bluff. Married Raymond J. Brabec on Nov. 18, 1940 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lincoln. Her husband, four sisters and a granddaughter, Debra Jean Brabec, precede her in death. Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 20 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Wife of Robert (Bob) M. Mumm who was born in Yutan to William and Jennie Jensen Mumm. WAHOO - Arlene E. WEHLAND, 87, of Wahoo, formerly of Holdrege, died Jan. 22, 2007 in Lincoln. Born March 2, 1919, to Adolph Walter and Ethel Belle (Johnston) Urbom, east of Atlanta in Phelps County. On Aug. 25, 1940, she married Guy Royneil Wehland. Her parents, her husband, and children, Virginia Arlene and Merrill Guy, precede her in death. Funeral services will be held Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. Born Nov. 19, 1924 to Rudolf and Bertha J. (Sukstorf) Jones at Cedar Bluffs. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp during World War II. On Dec. 1, 1946 he married Phyllis A. Carstensen at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, David L. Jones. Funeral services: Jan. 16 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery at Cedar Bluffs with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard. SEWARD - Evelyn Rose KORANDA, 85, of Seward died Jan. 10, 2007. Born on March 16, 1921 to James and Bertha (Herms) Prochaska on a farm west of Ulysses. On April 14, 1942, married Dennis Robert Koranda, Sr. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses. Preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, a sister, Kristina Sedlak; brothers, Raymond, Leonard and Albin Prochaska and her son, Robert Koranda. FREMONT - James A. KUNCE, 65, of Fremont died Jan. 11, 2007. Born April 27, 1941 to Robert J. and Josephine (Fanning) Kunce in Crete. Served in the Army National Guard, 24th Medical Company of Wahoo from 1961 to 1967. Married Shirley Kosta on Oct. 3, 1964 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. MORSE BLUFF - Larry J. RACEK, 57, of Morse Bluff, died Jan. 8, 2007 in Omaha. Born Aug. 13. 1949 to Lorin J. and Nadine Racek in North Bend. His father and a sister, Lorna Pelan, preceded him in death. Survived by his mother, and a sister, Jerrine Racek of Denver, Colo. SETTLES, 88, of Wahoo, formerly of Cedar Bluffs, died Jan. 12, 2007. Born March 1, 1918 to Thomas M. and Malinda (Nick) Settles in Cedar Bluffs. On Sept. 1, 1940 he married Clairbell Haxby at her parents' home in Cedar Bluffs. His parents, his wife, and a grandson, Shawn Settles, preceded him in death. Funeral services: Jan. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at Cedar Bluffs. YUTAN - Kathleen Ann STORM, 63, of Yutan, died Jan. 10, 2007 in Omaha after a long fight with cancer. Born on April 17, 1943, to Don and Mary Theresa (Weber) Clark in Omaha. Married Ken Storm on Nov. 27, 1993 in Yutan. Preceded in death by her parents, sister, Mary Lou Shurter and brother, Robert Clark. Services were held Jan. 13 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yutan. Interment was at Hollst Lawn Cemetery at Yutan. WAHOO - Milo M. VASA, 81, of Wahoo, formerly of Weston, died Jan. 15, 2007. Born on Nov. 3, 1925 to Frank Sr. and Anna (Bartek) Vasa at Keystone, Ne. Served in the U. S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Cabot Carrier. On April 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Adeline Egr at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Plasi. Preceded in death by an infant son, John M. Vasa; brothers, Frank Jr. and Joe Vasa, sisters, Helen Shirley and Rose Sloup. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston. Interment will be at Znojemsky Cemetery at Weston. VALPARAISO - Dorothy L. (Kliment) HULA, 80, of Valparaiso, died Jan. 23, 2007. B. Aug. 15, 1926, to Louis and Antonia (Pokorny) Ratkovec in rural Weston. Married Alfred Kliment in 1945 and Adolph Hula in 1965. Her husbands, her parents, an infant son, Gary Hula and granddaughter, Michelle Koranda, precede her in death. Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 26 at Sts. BEAVER, Ark. - Don Robert SHUSTA, 66, of Beaver, Ark., died Dec. 25 in Springdale, Ark. B. Feb. 10, 1940, to Robert and Virginia (Walter) Shusta in Wahoo. Served in the U. S. Navy from 1958 to 1960. He was a firefighter for Monterey Park and later at Huntington Beach. He retired in 1994 and moved to Beaver, Ark. in 2005. Preceded in death by an aunt, Diana Walter Hooper and uncle, Finley Walter. A memorial service was held Jan. 12 at the First Christian Church in Eureka Springs, Ark. Bella Vista Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. GRAND ISLAND - Marcelyn J. THIEMANN, 94, of Grand Island, died Jan. 27, 2007. Born on Jan. 31, 1912, to Joseph M. and Blenda (Dahlman) Erickson at Wahoo. Graduated Wahoo High School in 1929. She was a teacher. Marriage to William Laurence Thiemann on June 1, 1949 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. Her parents, her husband and two brothers, Martin and Irvin Erickson, preceded her in death. Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William J. and Cindy Thiemann of Grand Island; two grandsons, Christopher and Sean Thiemann. Funeral services: Jan. 31 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
