He served as a Cadet on Lincoln Police Force in 1973 and 1974, as an Officer on City of Lincoln Police Force from 1974 to 1991, and was a foster parent from 1986 to 1993. He born in rural Memphis, to Frank and Zelma (Keiser) Newsham. He farmed with his father until he entered the Army on Feb. 3, 1942 in Omaha. Married Ruth Ziegenbein on May 6, 1945 at the home of her parents, Arley and Elma Ziegenbein near Memphis. Preceded in death by an infant son Jack Lyle. Funeral services held July 31, at First Christian Church in Ashland, NE. Interment will be at Ashland Cemetery with military rites by Ashland Legion Post 129. ELKHORN - Gary W. GARMONG, 61, of Elkhorn, died Aug. 3 in Fremont. Born Mar 13, 1947, to Robert F. and Celestine "Sally" Garmong in Omaha. He served in the U S Army during the Vietnam War. He was assigned to the First Battalion 87th Infantry stationed at Baumholder, Germany. Preceded in death by his father; companion, Josephine Whalen; and nephew, Chad Garmong. Funeral Mass will be held Aug. 13 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. Military honors will be conducted by members of VFW Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 both of North Bend and American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff at the church following the Mass. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. FAIRFIELD, Ark. - Shirley Ann BOGATZ, 73, of Fairfield Bay, Ark., died July 26. She was born Sept. 5, 1934 in Gretna to the late Raymond and Marie Lenz. She was the oldest of six children. She married John Bogatz on Nov. 12, 1955. She was born on Nov. 9, 1929 to Louis P. and Beata (Nielsen) Hansen in Fremont. She married Paul R. DuPree on Sept. 15, 1960 in Norfolk. They moved to Ashland where her husband served as police chief. Her husband passed away in 1976. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Arthur L. Wheeler, daughter Pam Shinaut, sisters Lucille Strong and Marie Reynolds and brothers Jimmy Dale and Elmer C. Hansen. "Gus" NUSTROM, 84, of rural Ceresco, passed away Aug. 25, 2008 at his home. He was born on the family farm east of Ceresco on Oct. 9, 1923 to Albert M. and Jennie O. (Green) Nustrom. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1949 and again from 1950 to 1951. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Carl Nustrom. He is survived by several cousins and friends.
