Grant Tribune Sentinel Dec 2008 Irma Kathryn (Hayford) THALKEN, 90, of rural Ogallala, Neb., passed away Nov. 30, 2008. Irma was born Dec. 23, 1917 at Belgrade, Neb., to Edward W. and Gladys F. Rathbun Hayford. On Aug. 17, 1937 Irma married John Darrel Thalken in Ogallala. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lyle Hayford, her husband John D. Thalken, and an infant daughter, Mary Kathryn Thalken. Funeral mass was held Dec. 10, 2008 at St. Lukes Catholic Church. Rosary and wake service was Dec. 9 at Draucker Funeral Home. Burial was in the Ogallala Cemetery. Charley SALSMAN was born on Aug. 7, 1929 at the Salsman ranch in Chase County southwest of Grant, Neb. He was the youngest of three children born to James I. and Elizabeth May Cowherd Salsman. Married Doralyn Kuskie on May 23, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Grant. Charley died Dec. 15, 2008. He had reached the age of 79. In addition to his parents, Charley was preceded in death by two daughters, infant, Rita Ann Salsman and Marcia Hunt who died in 2007. Funeral services were held Dec. 19, 2008 at the Grant United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery. Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Emil HANSON was born on Dec. 30, 1922 west of Elsie, Neb. He was the third of five children born to Oscar and Belle Brittain Hanson. Emil married Eveline Carter on Oct. 16, 1944 in North Platte, Neb. Emil joined the US Army in April 1945. Eveline died in 2007 and Emil died Dec. 18, 2008. He had reached the age of 85. In addition to his parents and his wife, Emil was preceded in death by three sisters, Ester Harbeson, Pauline Johnson, and Edith Hunter and one son-in-law, Gary Williams. Services were held Dec. 22, 2008 at the Elsie United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Elsie Cemetery with flag presentation by the Elsie Legion.
