BENES, Betty I.    
WAHOO - Betty I. Benes, 89, of Wahoo, died Nov. 1, 2009. Betty was born 
Nov. 6, 1919, to Adolph and Mary (Tejral) Komenda near Brainard. She 
married George F. Benes on Oct. 6, 1945 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in 
Brainard. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Helen Tejral, 
Julia Kliment and Marie Skokan; brothers, Adolph, Anton and Ted Komenda. 
Mass of Christian Burial held Nov. 5 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in 
Wahoo. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery. Svoboda Funeral Home in 
Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements.  

DRIELING, Dorlin G.
MEAD - Dorlin G. Drieling, 73, of Mead, died Nov. 1, 2009 at his home. 
He was born April 10, 1936, to George and Eileen (VonSeggern) Drieling 
on a farm near Uehling. He farmed with his father for several years. 
On Jan. 20, 1957, he married Helen Swanson at First Lutheran Church in 
Oakland. They farmed near Pender for a few years. He was preceded in 
death by his parents; and brother, Lyle Drieling. Memorial service held 
Nov. 4 at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead. Svoboda Funeral Home in 
Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements.  

FREEBORN, Judith
WAHOO - Judith Freeborn, 70, of Wahoo, died Nov. 4, 2009 at her home. 
She was born Feb. 15, 1939 to Frank and Rose (Styskal) Janecek in Wahoo. 
Her parents and a brother preceded her in death. Private family services held. 
Svoboda Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements. 

HUGILL, Richard D.
MUSCATINE, Iowa - Richard Dale Hugill, 91, of Muscatine, Iowa, died Nov. 3, 2009. 
He was born on Oct. 19, 1918, to William E. and Anna M. (Keller) Hugill in Wahoo. 
He served in the U S Army from 1942 to 1945, attaining the rank of Captain in the 
Field Artillery. He married Barbara Burnett in Ames, Iowa on May 8, 1942. She died 
on Nov. 9, 1957. He married Betty Ruth Kiser on Nov. 11, 1960, in Muscatine. His 
parents, his wives, and his daughter, Diane, preceded him in death. Funeral services 
were held Nov. 7 at the Faith United Church of Christ. Burial was in Muscatine 
Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the combined units of the V.F. W Post 
1565 and the American Legion Post 27. Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and 
Cremation Services was in charge of the arrangements. 
 
KOZISEK, Edward G. 
BRUNO - Edward G. Kozisek, 78, of Bruno, died Nov. 1, 2009 in Omaha. Edward was born 
Mar 20, 1931, to Joseph A. and Anna A. (Pekarek) Kozisek in Bruno. He served in the 
U S Navy for three years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Agnes 
Proskovec and Martha Mares; and three brothers, Rudy, Leonard and Vince Kozisek. 
Mass of Christian Burial held Nov. 4 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bruno. Burial 
at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors. Kracl Funeral Chapel of David 
City is in charge of the arrangements. 
 
POLACEK, Clara
PRAGUE - Clara Polacek, 93, of Prague, died Nov. 3, 2009 at St. Joseph Villa in David City. 
Clara was born Aug. 12, 1916 to Vaclav and Agnes (Odvody) Koranda near Prague. 
She married Max Polacek on Sept. 30, 1941 in Prague. She was preceded in death 
by her husband; her parents; sisters, Agnes Palensky and Marie Sloup; and 
brother, Vaclav "Jim" Koranda. Mass of Christian Burial held Nov. 7 at St. John 
the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague. Interment at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery 
in Wahoo. 

STANDER, Carol A. 
GREENWOOD - Carol A. Stander, 65, of rural Greenwood died Nov. 5, 2009 at 
Hospice House in Omaha. She was married Frank Stander on Feb. 12, 1966 at 
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellevue. Mass of Christian Burial Nov. 9, at St. Mary 
Catholic Church in Ashland with interment at Ashland Cemetery. Arrangements 
by Marcy Mortuary, Ashland.  

BODEN, E. Ardell
Funeral services for E. Ardell Boden of Lincoln were held Nov. 17, 2009 at Redeemer 
Lutheran Church in Lincoln. She died Nov. 13 at the age of 80. She was born 
Nov. 8, 1929 in Mead to Walter Bernard and Hulda (Ohm) Buck. She was an 
x-ray technician/licensed radiologist and retired from Veterinary Science at 
the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was the electron microscope 
technician. Interment was at Wyuka Cemetery.
 
MEDUNA, Stanley F.
NORTH PLATTE - Stanley Frank Meduna, 78, of North Platte, died Nov. 12, 2009. 
He was born Mar 7, 1931 to Frank and Stella (Sabathka) Meduna in Weston. 
He married Beverly Wonka on April 12, 1950 in Weston. He was preceded in 
death by his parents, a brother, Leonard Meduna and sister, Loretta Reitmajer. 
Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 16 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North 
Platte. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. 
Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte was in charge of the 
arrangements.  

SULLIVAN, Clara
WAYNE - Clara Freida Sullivan, 98, of Wayne, died Nov. 10, 2009 in Wahoo. 
She was born Feb. 9, 1911 on a farm east of Coleridge to William and Hannah 
(Herzog) Miller. She married Floyd Sullivan on June 26, 1929 at Holy Trinity 
Catholic Church in Hartington. She was preceded in death by her parents; 
husband, Floyd; brother, Louis Miller; sisters, Nora Schneider and Leona 
Meier; daughter-in-law, Lillian Sullivan; sons-in-law, Neal Smith and James 
Ziegenbein and granddaughter-in-law, Bonita Smith. Mass of Resurrection 
Nov. 16. Interment at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington. Arrangements 
by Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne, Neb.  
 
WEISS, John  
WAHOO - John "Buck" Weiss, 37, of Wahoo, formerly of Madison, died Nov. 13, 2009. 
He was born on Sept. 24, 1972 to August and Marianne (Johnson) Weiss in Norfolk.  
His grandparents preceded him in death. Mass of Christian Burial held Nov. 17 at 
St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery 
in Wahoo. Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements.  
 
WYLDER, Aaron  
Aaron Thomas Wylder, 33, Waverly, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009. He was born 
Feb. 12, 1976 Lincoln, to William and Bernice (Johnson) Wylder. He was 
preceded in death by grandparents, William and Ila Wylder and Leonard 
and Lila Johnson. Funeral services were held Nov. 14 at the First United 
Methodist Church, Waverly. Private inurnment at a later date. 

HAMMOND, Margaret Rose 
WICHITA, Kan. – Margaret Rose Hammond, 92, died Oct. 5, 2009. She was 
preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rose Cejka; her husband, James 
F. Hammond; and a brother, William Cejka. A memorial service was held Nov. 14 
at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Cochran Mortuary of Wichita, Kan. is in charge 
of the arrangements.

KERN, Catherine "Claire" 
FREMONT – Catherine "Claire" Kern, 74, of Fremont, died Nov. 18, 2009 at her home. 
She was born Oct. 21, 1935 to William and Mary (Boyle) Nick in Cedar Bluffs. She 
married John L. Kern on Oct. 31, 1953 in Cedar Bluffs. She was preceded in death 
by her parents, her husband, a brother Fred Nick and a sister Judith Nick. Funeral 
Mass was held Nov. 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cedar Bluffs. Burial will be 
at Little Flower of Jesus Cemetery near Leshara. Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont 
was in charge of the arrangements. 

MILLER, Mary Ellen 
LINCOLN – Mary Ellen Miller, 88, passed away on Nov. 6, 2009. She was born 
May 3, 1921 in Mason City, to John Otto and Lucy Alice (Mathis) Erickson. Her 
family moved to the Waverly area where she graduated in 1938. She was married 
Victor A. Miller on June 20, 1943 at her parents home in Waverly. She was preceded 
in death by her husband, Victor A. Miller; sister, Margaret Fleischmann brother, Russell 
Erickson and parents. Funeral services Nov. 11 at the United Methodist Church in Ashland. 
Interment at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln. Arrangements by Marcy Mortuary, Ashland. 

SMITH, Leo H. 
WAHOO – Leo H. Smith, 86, of Wahoo, longtime Ithaca area farmer, died Nov. 20, 2009. 
He was born Feb. 25, 1923 to John and Emma (Behrens) Smith in rural Ithaca. He married 
Faith Dech on Oct. 17, 1943 at the home of her parents. He was preceded in death by his 
three sons, Alan, Kenneth and Steven Smith. Services will be held Nov. 27 at 10:30 a.m. 
at the Wahoo United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Sunrise Cemetery. Svoboda 
Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements. 

THORNTON, Janice Marie 
WAHOO – Janice Marie Thornton, 61, of Wahoo, died Nov. 19, 2009 at her home. 
She was born Jan. 23, 1948, to Alfred Raymond and Essie Mae (Underwood) Thornton 
in Omaha. She lived at home with her parents until the age of six, at which time she 
moved to the Beatrice State Development Center where she lived until 1975. She was 
preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Nolan Ninemire; and an infant brother. 
Funeral services Nov. 24 at Calvary Church in Wahoo. Interment in Riverview Cemetery 
in Louisville. Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  

BIGNELL, Mildred  (1918 - 2009) 
CORTEZ, Colo. – Mildred B. Bignell, 91, of Cortez, Colo., died Nov. 22 in Cortez. 
She was born May 17, 1918 to George and Sadie (Tetterton) Star in North 
Platte. She married James F. Bignell on May 16, 1936 at Julesburg, Colo. Her 
parents and her husband preceded her in death. Graveside services held 
Dec. 2 at Fleming Cemetery at Morse Bluff. Moser Memorial Chapel of North 
Bend is in charge of the arrangements. 

BOUC, Doris A.  (1956 - 2009)  
BRAINARD – Doris A. Bouc, 53, of Brainard, died Nov. 20 at her home. 
She was born Mar 4, 1956, to Stanley and Rose (Jirovsky) Bartek in 
Lincoln. On Nov. 27, 1976, she married Glenn Bouc at St. Joseph 
Catholic Church in Agnew. She was preceded in death by mother; 
sisters, Diane Warta and Virginia Skipper; and brother-in-law, Joe 
erucha. Mass of Christian Burial held Nov. 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic 
Church in Brainard. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery in 
Wahoo. Svoboda Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge of the 
arrangements. 

EMBREY, Gene  (1940 - 2009) 
YUTAN – Gene Embrey, 69, of Yutan, died Nov. 27. He was born Jan. 23, 1940. 
His mother, Ruby Base and nephew, Matt Embrey, preceded him in death. 
Memorial services held Dec. 1 at the Pacific Street Chapel. John A. Gentleman 
Mortuaries, Pacific Street Chapel, of Omaha was in charge of the arrangements. 

FIEDLER, Helen M.  (1922 - 2009)  
WESTON – Helen M. Fiedler, 87, of Weston, died Nov. 24, 2009 in Wahoo. 
She was born Feb. 4, 1922 to James and Rose (Janecek) Swoboda in Wahoo. 
She married Joe Fiedler on Sept. 24, 1940 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church 
in Wahoo. The couple lived on a farm south of Weston for 40 years until 
moving into Weston in 1989. Her parents, her husband, a sister, Rose 
Heaton and a brother, Louis Swoboda, preceded her in death. Mass of 
Christian Burial was held Nov. 30 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic 
Church in Weston. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery. 

MEDUNA, Anna L.  (1909 - 2009) 
WAHOO – Anna L. Meduna, 100, of Wahoo, died Nov. 28 at her home. 
She was born Jan. 29, 1909 to Joseph and Antonia (Lukas) Bouc in 
rural Ceresco. She was preceded in death by husband, Albert F. 
Meduna; brother, George Bouc Sr.; and sisters, Rose Rezac and 
Marie Jonas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 5 
at 10:15 a.m. from Svoboda Funeral Home to St. Wenceslaus 
Catholic Church in Wahoo at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be 
St. Francis Cemetery. 

STUCHLIK, Wilma F.  (1923 - 2009) 
WAHOO – Wilma F. (Maly) Stuchlik, 86, of Wahoo, formerly of Cedar Bluffs, died 
Nov. 28 at Marquis Place in Elkhorn. She was born Aug. 24, 1923 to Joseph and 
Agnes (Sedlacek) Mach in rural Weston. She married John J. Maly on June 10, 1947 
at Plasi. Her husband John died on Oct. 8, 1981. She married William Stuchlik on 
Jan. 30, 1988 at Cedar Bluffs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 
husbands; a son, John Maly Jr.; brother and wife, Anton and Helen Mach; and 
brothers-in-law, William Wirka, George, Fred, Daniel and Adrain Maly, Don Mass 
and Frank Bordovsky. Mass of Christian Burial held Dec. 1 at St. Mary's Catholic 
Church in Cedar Bluffs. Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery near Cedar Bluffs. 

SVOBODA, Francis    
VALPARAISO – Francis Svoboda, 82, of Valparaiso, died Nov. 26. 
He was born to Emil and Marie Svoboda in Prague. He farmed in Valparaiso 
and worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road for 32 years. He was a WWII Veteran 
and a member of American Legion Post 371. He was preceded in death by parents 
and sister, Wilma Vanek. He is survived by nieces and nephews; and good 
friends, Randy and Doreen Blazek, Valparaiso. Funeral services were held 
Nov. 30 at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home in Valparaiso. 

WEBER,  Sarah L. (1962 - 2009)  
SEWARD – Sarah Lynn Weber, 47, died Nov. 23 in Lincoln. She was born 
Oct. 15, 1962 in Newark, Ohio. She was completing classes on-line to 
become a crime scene investigator. Her father, Paul Leslie Glancey, preceded 
her in death. A memorial service was held Nov. 28 at Zabka Funeral Home 
Chapel in Seward. Zabka Funeral Home in Seward was in charge of 
the arrangements.
